Volunteer Services We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at Cohasset Elder Affairs, and below is a brief description of some of those opportunities. For details call (781) 383-9112.
Luncheon Assistant Assist in serving congregate meals at Cohasset Elder Affairs (CEA) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers may stagger their times of arrival starting at 11:00 a.m. Meals are served shortly after 12:00 noon and are usually completed by 12:45 to 1:00 p.m.
Volunteer Receptionist/Office Assistant Provide clerical support for the staff at Cohasset Elder Affairs and assist by taking and logging messages in appropriate log books; answering inquiries about our programs, telephoning clients about upcoming events and doing other related tasks. Some computer experience is helpful.
Volunteer Escort Shopper Provide grocery shopping assistance to those elder Cohasset residents unable to shop independently. This service is offered twice a week and the time commitment is approximately three hours a trip. A volunteer van driver picks up the elders at their homes in our CEA van, and the escort shopper assists the elders at the supermarket and if needed carries groceries to the seniors' homes.
Volunteer Van Driver Provide van transportation for Cohasset seniors for shopping, visits to the library, for local appointments, for transportation to congregate meals at the Center, and other scheduled events. (CEA maintains vans for this purpose.) A valid Massachusetts driver's license is required, and the time commitment is approximately 3 hours a month.
Volunteer Home Visitor Provide a friendly visit to a Cohasset elder who is homebound. Time commitment is approximately one hour a week. Additional information about this service is available from the CEA Outreach Coordinator.
Volunteer Instructor If a volunteer has a talent that he or she would like to share with our seniors, we at CEA would be pleased to hear from that volunteer. An example of some of our current "instructor-related" programs include a knitting class, bridge classes, gourmet cooking class, computer instruction, and a variety of physical fitness and exercise programs.
Benefits and Training Our programs offer the volunteer the opportunity to meet and interact with our senior residents in a special and caring way. There can be great satisfaction in knowing the gift of one's time enriches the life of an elder.
Please Note: Besides the above listed volunteer opportunities, Cohasset Elder Affairs often plans special annual programs with the local schools, such as volunteers who take part in the Read Aloud Day to the students at the Joseph Osgood School, or high school seniors who, together with their parents, assist some of our elders with fall lawn clean-up and other related tasks.
Call Cohasset Elder Affairs (781) 383-9112. for additional information on any of our volunteer programs.
